The American standard of living has declined recently for
a variety of reasons, but it is widely agreed that a major one is
very slow growth in productivity and recently actual declines.
One reason for the decline in productivity has been the increase
in the proportion of the population employed in activities whose
productivity has traditional not grown or even has traditionally
declined.
Existing computer technology permits greatly increased
office productivity, but this has not been realized, and the
purpose of this article is to discuss some of the opportunities.
